Title

The cultural diversity of Hong Kong inspired me to create this artwork. Through artistic expression, I wanted to capture the unique scenery of Hong Kong, where old meets new and East meets West. While reading the poem, “Rain Scene” by Collier Nogues, I was further intrigued by the cultural diversity of Hong Kong. However, presenting the essence of cultural diversity was quite difficult for me, as numerous ideas flashed through my mind. Initially, I was indecisive about what medium I should use to present the themes of this painting. After numerous drafts, I decided to experiment with different styles by utilising watercolour, gouache and collage to express my ideas. Through trial and error, I generated some new ideas and added them on top of the old ones, which fortunately, turned out to be a success. A groundbreaking work is created by adopting innovative methods that I have never tried. I would definitely recommend everyone to experiment with different materials and media to explore possibilities, to overcome fear and enjoy the process, to show your true colours: it can be truly enlightening!
