Title

I have participated in OI since secondary 2. As I was interested in technology, I started learning programming in Pascal. After I joined the HKOI training team, I started using C++.
Before the IOI, I reviewed some data structures and algorithms which might be useful in the contest. My weaknesses are data structures and constructive algorithms and therefore I found Day 1 problems challenging as the problem set requires knowledge in both. Although I was stuck on the task “Parks”, I kept myself calm and confident. I also gave up and attempted other problems when I found myself putting too much time.
I would advise my peers to learn to cope with adversities and enjoy the process of competitive programming. Not only do algorithmic knowledge and coding skills take part in OI competitions, but also contest strategies and mental strength. It is important to build resilience and break our own limits during a contest.
The trip has given a great opportunity for us to discuss and interact with each other. It was an enjoyable yet educational experience.
