The effectiveness of adsorption of metal ions and oil by agricultural wastes

Theme of the Portfolio

Introduction

This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of 5 different agricultural wastes (bagasse, coconut coir, corncob, edamame shell and peanut shell) as raw materials to make adsorbents to remove heavy metal ions (mercury(II), lead(II) and copper(II)) and paraffin oil. The yield of different raw materials after treated with citric acid or nitric acid was compared and different adsorbents to remove heavy metals and paraffin oil were used. Overall, the performance of using bagasse as the raw material is good and hence, it may help alleviate the water pollution problem.
