The Award Scheme aims to encourage students to learn history through reading, and create a favourable reading atmosphere and culture in school; and to arouse students’ interest in learning history, encourage them to engage in self-directed learning through the e-platform, so as to explore historical knowledge and develop proper values and attitudes.
The 2025 Award Scheme was held from April to July 2025, with over 36 300 students from 187 secondary schools participating, which is the highest in the 7 years.
2025 marks the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression andthe World Anti-Fascist War. In this regard, the Award Scheme this year specially provides historical articles related to theabove themes to enable students to understand the significance of the victory of the War of Resistance and the end ofWWII to the country and the world from multiple perspectives, learn to remember history and cherish the hard-won peace,as well as understand that safeguarding and pursuing world peace are the common aspiration and goal of humanity.
In the Award Scheme this year, “Creativity Award” encourages students to use different ways other than writing to illustrate proper value(s) shown by the historical figures and events from articles. 12 student teams receive this Award (including a certificate, a trophy and a book coupon). The “STEAM Award” encourages students to integrate History learning with STEAM and demonstrate proper values and attitudes. 4 student teams receive this Award (including a certificate, a trophy and a book coupon). The “Academic Award” enables students to conduct project learning relevant to the topic of articles. 2 student teams receive this Award (including a certificate, a trophy and a book coupon). Regarding the individual prizes, after assessment, 848 students receive the “Merit Award”, and among these awardees, 83 students with excellent performance receive a certificate, a trophy and a book coupon; about 4 400 students performed satisfactorily receive the “Appreciation Award”, and more than 14 700 students obtain the “Certificate of Participation” for encouragement.
The “Prize-presentation Ceremony of the History e-Reading Award Scheme 2025” was held in Rayson Huang Theatre, The University of Hong Kong on 8 January 2026.
