The Mathematics Project Competition for Secondary Schools is organised by the Mathematics Education Section, Curriculum Development Institute, Education Bureau. It aims at promoting students’ interest in learning Mathematics and developing students’ generic skills through project learning. The competition comprises two categories: Category A (Junior secondary project) and Category B (S1 mini-project).

This project is about the equivalence between Geogebra toolsets, and the ways of constructing figures without compass. It is proved that figures which compass-and-straightedge construction is applied in can be constructed with several sets of Geogebra tools. It is found six toolsets that are equivalent to one another.

The Mysterious Area of the Circle

The project aims at investigating and creating a generalized formula to find the required area of a shape in a circle through different approaches. This shape is formed with an arc, with the arms connected to an arbitrary point in the circle, called the mysterious area of the circle.

The project aims at investigating how the shape and orientation of some fence-posts affect the fraction of light passing through the mesh. With the aid of computer programs, the optimal values of the fraction of light passing through meshes of square or triangular fence-posts are obtained.

The Perfect Egg

Brief of Work
This project is about the investigation of formulas of Perfect Eggs in 2 different forms — Sunny-Side Up Eggs and Egg Stacking. The objective is to draw conclusions on how to design the shape and appearance of eggs of different sizes which have perfect view for eating comfortably and happily.
